Sparta18 the Cat needs a home

All Purr Partners Adoptable Cats & Kittens have been tested, wormed, spayed or neutered, are up to date on age appropriate vaccines and microchipped.

Sparta is now well and ready for adoption.  He was rescued by Purr Partners from the Duplin County Animal Shelter. Unbeknownst to anyone this adorable kitten was silently suffering with horrific internal injuries. Shortly after rescue he was scheduled to be altered at Bunn Animal Hospital. Again, Sparta showed no signs of illness when sedated. Once he was shaved and lying on his back his injuries were discovered. The surgeon could see that he was having difficulty breathing and became progressively worse. Sparta was working very hard to breathe, his respirations were extremely rapid, any slight stress caused him to struggle for air. Every breath was exhausting, his little abdominal muscles were working so hard just to get enough air to keep him alive. Sparta was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic rupture, most likely a result of blunt force trauma. Upon more testing and X-rays (see below) it appears that at least two of his ribs had been fractured and were left untreated. We believe that he was either stepped on as a tiny kitten or purposely abused. Greater than 50% of his diaphragm had a gaping tear which had allowed his stomach, liver, and intestines to enter his chest cavity. The abdominal contents were compressing his lungs and preventing them from fully inflating, causing respiratory distress. One lung was nearly collapsed and his heart has been pushed so far back that it is literally in his back! In the short two months of his life and barely weighing 2 pounds this tiny kitten had been subjected to extreme cruelty. We have no idea how long he had been suffering. He underwent a successful surgery at Quartet Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital on Monday, January 21. The surgeon was able to repair the rupture in his diaphragm and he is stable. Sparta's prognosis is favorable, he will be in the hospital until he's stable and then will continue to recover at the home of his foster family. Please consider making a donation to help with his veterinary care, no amount is too small! https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MjkxODc=] Thank you for your continued support and love of animals!
